1. The Placement Instruction Is Too Vague
Instructions such as “centered on the front,” “above the pocket” or “same as the sample” leave important questions unanswered.
Production teams still need to know:
- Which panel or visible area is being referenced
- Whether the logo is centered geometrically or visually
- The finished logo size
- Its distance from seams, pockets or zippers
- Whether the position is measured before or after assembly
Without those details, two people can follow the same instruction and produce different results.
2. The Measurement Reference Is Unstable
A logo may be positioned correctly on a flat cut panel but move visually after the edges are folded into seam allowances.
Raw fabric edges, temporary marks and areas affected by stretching are usually less reliable than finished seams, panel centerlines, pocket edges or other repeatable construction features.
3. The Finished Bag Structure Was Not Considered
Padding, curved panels, pocket volume, bindings, straps and hardware can change how a logo appears after assembly.
A mathematically centered logo may look too high, too low or off-center once the bag is filled, carried or viewed from its normal angle.
4. Artwork or Production Control Breaks Down
The sample may be correct, but bulk production can still use:
- An outdated artwork revision
- The wrong logo size
- A reversed or upside-down file
- An old placement fixture
- A template created for another bag size
- An unapproved first production piece
These are version-control and production-release problems, not simply operator mistakes.

Center of the Visible Area
Part of a panel may be covered by a pocket, flap, webbing or another component. In that case, the center of the visible area may be more relevant than the center of the complete cut panel.
For example, a logo centered on a full front panel may appear too high after a large front pocket is attached.
Visual Center
A logo can be dimensionally centered but still appear unbalanced. Asymmetrical symbols, long wordmarks and artwork with uneven visual weight may require a small optical adjustment.
That adjustment should not be left to individual operators. Once approved, the final position should be recorded with the same measurable dimensions used for any other placement.
The Tech Pack should state whether the logo is centered relative to:
- The complete cut panel
- The visible area after assembly
- A pocket or flap
- The finished bag
- A specified seam
- A construction centerline
- Another clearly marked reference
Define the Position with Measurable References

Example of a Clear Placement Instruction
Finished logo size: 70 mm wide × 22 mm high. Align the logo centerline with the finished front-panel centerline. Position the bottom edge of the logo 85 mm above the finished top seam of the front pocket. Artwork must be upright when the bag is standing in its normal carrying orientation.
These dimensions are examples of how a placement instruction can be written. They are not universal logo-position standards. Actual measurements must be based on the approved design, pattern and physical sample.
Where possible, provide both:
- A dimensioned drawing of the flat panel
- A photograph or rendering showing the intended appearance on the assembled bag
The drawing helps the production team measure accurately. The finished-bag reference helps prevent a position that is dimensionally correct but visually wrong after assembly.
Supply Production-Ready Artwork
Buyers should provide an editable vector file such as AI or EPS where possible, or a vector PDF with all text converted to outlines.
Adobe explains that vector graphics can be resized without losing image quality, making them suitable for logos and production artwork.
However, not every PDF contains vector artwork. Placing a low-resolution JPG or PNG inside a PDF does not turn it into a production-ready vector file.
The artwork package should identify:
- Final file name and revision
- Finished logo width and height

If one print screen, embroidery file or transfer is used without considering panel direction, the logo on one side may appear upside down, mirrored or directed toward the back of the finished bag.
Production documents should identify:
- Top and bottom of each panel
- Face side and reverse side
- Left- and right-hand components
- Correct reading direction
- Whether the artwork must be mirrored
- Final orientation after assembly
A simple directional arrow on the pattern or placement drawing can prevent an expensive batch error.

There is no universal solution. A fixed distance may work when all sizes share the same pocket construction. Proportional placement may be more suitable when the complete panel changes substantially.
Unless the Tech Pack clearly explains how the position should scale, each bag size should have its own approved placement drawing.
Control Placement for Each Logo Application Method
Different branding processes create different placement risks. Buyers still comparing decoration options can review the main logo application methods used on outdoor bags before establishing the final production controls.

Screen printing is usually completed while the fabric panel is flat. Registration marks, panel outlines or placement fixtures can help control the position.
The first printed panel should be checked before the remaining quantity is processed. After the specified curing process, verify the color, adhesion, surface appearance and final position.

Sample approval does not remove the need to inspect the first bulk-production application. Screens, hoops, dies, fixtures and transfer templates may be set up again when bulk production begins.
Before the complete batch continues, compare the first-off production piece with the latest approved references.

This should only be accepted when the revised result is clean, durable and approved by the buyer. Covering an error with a larger logo should not be treated as an automatic solution.
Replace the Finished Component
A detachable pocket, flap or independent panel may sometimes be replaced without rebuilding the complete bag.
Reject or Segregate the Product
If correction would leave visible damage or compromise the approved appearance, the affected units may need to be rejected, downgraded or segregated with written buyer approval.
Embroidery removal can leave needle holes or fabric distortion. Heat transfers may leave adhesive or pressure marks. Metal badges can leave permanent holes. Any rework method should be tested on one unit and approved before it is applied to the affected quantity.
Logo Placement Approval Checklist
Before bulk production begins, confirm that:
- The latest artwork file is clearly identified
- The artwork is production-ready
- Finished logo dimensions are specified
- The application method is confirmed
- Color references are documented
- Placement uses stable, measurable references
- Horizontal and vertical measurements are shown
- Top, bottom, face and reading directions are clear
- Left- and right-hand panels are correctly identified
- Measurement stage is defined
- The logo has enough clearance from seams, zippers and hardware
- Each bag size has an appropriate placement specification
- A realistic tolerance has been agreed
- The physical sample matches the latest Tech Pack
- First-off production approval is required

The best time to prevent a logo-placement problem is before the first bulk-production panel is decorated.
